It is with pleasure that the Centre of Material Thinking and The Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies Aberystwyth University, will host a conversation with dancer, Chris Tandy. Chris has been a dancer with Tanztheater Wuppertal since 2018. He has performed in all the major works that form the historical repertoire of this world famous company. Since the death of the artistic director Pina Bausch in 2009 her enormous influence over the world of dance and theatre has been continued by the company whose first generation of dancers continue to teach the original works to the new performers. Chris is now one of the senior dancers in the new cohort. Chris hails from Ceredigion, a Welsh speaker and steeped in the cultural traditions of the area, he left at 18 to study at Trinity Laban in London. Moving on to the Welsh National Dance Company after graduating, he then left for Europe to make his own work. He will discuss the materiality of bodyminds in the transmission of important and unique historical repertoire and his personal thoughts about identity and movement that are also at the heart of Bausch’s works.
